Is remote work permanent? It’s up to you!
It’s easy to assume that remote work adopted during the quarantine or lockdown periods is a long-term remedy for your business. Of course, homeworking does have its advantages, but it removes some of the needs when people are in the same location.
One advantage of working remotely is getting away from distractions. We all experience times to keep up with deadlines. That one project that creeps up on you at the last minute. A distraction I always find is the one talkative person who feels they have to get away from their desk to distract you. Or co-workers having their conversations in the hallway or near your desk. Working remotely lessens that stress.
A start to get your employees to hopefully come back to an office environment is to work on your office workspaces. A noisy workspace is more than just an annoyance. A quiet workspace is a happy workspace. Noise can cause distractions, reduce productivity, and even increase stress, not to mention the effects on job satisfaction. Noise pollution can be a disruption to any business.
In some cases, noise pollution can be managed. Just by a simple office rearrangement. A good example is, try placing desks in a cluster per department It can help compartmentalize noise around the entire office. Try to rearrange your office layout using dividers and screens. They can be placed across desks, positioned on the floor, and even hung from the ceiling to help improve focus. Acoustic pods can be a great addition to any office. Acoustic pods are self-contained spaces. Employees can work and fully concentrate away from their desks. It is a private working area, free from any distractions.
So, is remote work permanent? The answer is not a simple yes or no. While there are clear benefits to remote work, it also comes with its own set of challenges. The decision to make remote work permanent will depend on a variety of factors, including the nature of the work, the culture of the organization, and the needs of employees.
In conclusion, remote work can be a viable option for many organizations. By carefully weighing the pros and cons of remote work, companies can make informed decisions about whether or not to make the shift permanent.

The Perfect Workplace
The bottom line of a productive workplace is a happy productive workplace. When workers arrive every day at their job and enjoy being there everyone involved benefits. It’s important to create a work atmosphere that makes your workers feel welcome. They must feel like it is their second home which makes their coworkers feel like family. This is how company culture is built.
It brings up a question. What is your perfect workplace layout? Is it an open floor plan, high-paneled cubicles, private offices, or a combination? It’s important to promote a collaborative environment where employees can easily communicate with each other to work effectively. Planning for this early in the design process will cut down or eliminate any unnecessary furniture reconfigurations later.
Lighting is just another way to add to your perfect workplace. Proper lighting can be such a huge influence on any work environment. Whether you have ceiling lighting or lots of natural lighting, it’s important that the light you cast is not too harsh or too subtle. Believe it or not, you have to see what you are doing.
Not only do you have to see what you are doing but you must hear as well. Office acoustics affect workers' productivity. Concentration is vital to productivity. Studies show that participants who worked in a loud noise environment were more tired, less motivated at work, and remembered little of what they were doing, compared to those working in a low-noise environment. Your office interior design and its acoustics is a good place to start. Designing an effective open office space leads to a productive environment. You save money with space while enabling collaboration. What is YOUR perfect workplace? Let RSC help you to find out.
